AP Capstone Magnet

Advanced Placement Capstone

program seal

AP Capstone is a diploma program that gives students the opportunity to develop the critical thinking, research, collaboration, time management, and presentation skills needed for success at the post-secondary level.  At it’s core are two yearlong courses, AP Seminar and AP Research, which are meant to complement other AP courses you can take throughout high school.

AP Seminar, taken in either 10th or 11th grade, helps to develop analytic, collaboration, and presentation skills. This course is a prerequisite for AP Research, in which you’ll design, conduct, present, and defend a research-based investigation on an issue you’re interested in. This issue could be related to topics you’ve studied in other, subject-specific AP courses.

The AP Seminar and Research Certificate™ is granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.

Research shows that students who take AP Capstone courses are more likely to persist in college and earn higher first-year college GPAs.

Benefits of AP Capstone

  • Stand out to colleges in the application process.
  • Develop key academic skills they’ll use in college and beyond.
  • Become self-confident, independent thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Earn college credit that is transferable to all colleges and universities!
