Advanced Placement Capstone

program seal

AP Capstone is a diploma program that gives you the chance to tackle the type of in-depth, long-term research assignments you’ll do in college. It’s based on two yearlong courses, AP Seminar and AP Research, which are meant to supplement other AP courses you can take anytime in high school.

AP Seminar, which students generally take in the 10th or 11th grade, helps you develop analytic, collaboration, and presentation skills. This course is a prerequisite for AP Research, in which you’ll design, conduct, present, and defend a research-based investigation on an issue you’re interested in. This issue could be related to topics you’ve studied in other, subject-specific AP courses.

AP Seminar and Research Certificate™: Granted to students who earn scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research.

Benefits of AP Capstone

  • Stand out to colleges in the application process.
  • Develop key academic skills they’ll use in college and beyond.
  • Become self-confident, independent thinkers and problem solvers.
  • Earn college credit that is transferable to all colleges and universities!
