Testing Information

Welcome to Miami Southridge Senior High’s Testing Information page. Here, you’ll find essential information about the state testing of our Southridge students. Our goal is to ensure that every student can excel academically and achieve their full potential.

Beginning with the 2022–23 school year, Florida’s statewide, standardized assessments in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics will be aligned with the Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.). The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.), which includes VPK through grade 10 Reading and VPK through grade 8 Mathematics assessments, will be administered as a progress monitoring assessment, which students will participate in three times per year. B.E.S.T. assessments that are not part of the FAST progress monitoring program include grades 4–10 Writing and end-of-course (E.O.C.) assessments in Algebra 1 and Geometry.

Florida high school testing encompasses a variety of assessments, including:

  • The Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.) for English Language Arts (ELA)
    • The F.A.S.T. is administered during the May testing window in the dates listed on our calendar. Miami Southridge Testing Calendar
    • F.A.S.T.  assessments are computer-adaptive, items may become progressively harder as students successfully respond to items and easier if students answer more questions incorrectly.
    • FAST assessments are administered three times during each school year: once at the beginning of the year (PM1), once in the middle of the year (PM2), and once at the end of the year (PM3).
    • Here are descriptions of each PM opportunity for students:
      • PM1 – because this administration occurs at the very beginning of the school year, it is designed to provide a baseline score so teachers can track student progress in learning the B.E.S.T. Standards from PM1 to PM2.
      • PM2 – by the time of this administration window, students will have had an opportunity to learn the grade-level standards, and this administration will provide a mid-year score to compare to the baseline score from PM1.
      • PM3 – this last administration will provide a summative score that will accurately measure student mastery of the B.E.S.T. Standards at the end of the school year. While PM1 and PM2 are for informational purposes only, PM3 will be used for school accountability beginning in the 2023–24 school year.
    • F.A.S.T. scores are reported in FRS system within 24 hours of the student completing testing. You can access the student’s scores within the Family Portal. How to access FAST and BEST test scores
  • B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 and Geometry End-of-Course
    • The B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC assessments are computer-adaptive and reported in the Florida Reporting System (FRS) as students complete testing. Because the assessments are computer adaptive, items may become progressively harder as students successfully respond to items and easier if students answer more questions incorrectly.
    • The B.E.S.T. Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC assessments are administered during the May testing window in the dates listed on our calendar. *Insert May Testing Calendar for Miami Southridge*
    • Results for B.E.S.T. EOC assessments are reported in FRS within 24 hours of the student completing testing. *Insert How to access FAST and BEST test scores*
  • End-of-Course (E.O.C.) Assessments
    •  The EOC assessments are designed to measure student achievement of the specified standards Science (Biology 1), and Social Studies (U.S. History).
    • All students enrolled in and completing one of the courses must participate in the appropriate assessment to receive credit for the class to be averaged as 30% of their course grades.
